since the opening of the season April 17, 1976. The largest bird checked at that location was a 19 pound, 5 ounce turkey killed by John Dispanel from New Market. At the checking station located in Gee’s Exxon Station in West Augusta, a total of eight birds have been checked with the largest a 19 pound, 8 ounce bird having been taken by David M. Rathburn from Staunton. A total of five birds were checked through the station located at the Buffalo Gap Service Center in Staunton.D
