KEYSER’S and Johnson’s remarks followed an appearance by Sheriff William Buntin at Monday’s meeting to explain his objections to the removal of his offices from the Court House to the jail. “We average 15 prisoners a month in the lock-up since I’ve been in office*” said Buntin. He didn’t feel that the present jail could continue to be used as a lock-up if it were also to serve as an office building.
Without the lock-up facilities available, Buntin said that prisoners would have to be taken directly to Warrenton. At 15 cents per mile with two round trips per prisoners, he estimated that it would cost the County $3,400 a year just to transfer prisoners.
