We certainly look forward to the ancient equipages which will drive out “before your very eyes,” so to speak, four in hand to carriages, etc., the horses and the Jfc hounds of the great Rappahannock Hunt and the demonstration of much paraphernalia and memorabilia which were so essential to the daily life of our ancestors.
Mrs. Pawley and I would like to make clear that in no way could we claim to have contributed to the conception of planning of this pageant. It is, as we understand, entirely the artistic dream of our friends, Sam and Waldron O’Conner and their able Bicentennial committee.
We shall ever be honored and grateful to them for their asking me to speak the Declaration in Rappahannock. I feel it’s the best part I ever had to turn down. We are sure, our replacement will be a star after the performance. There’s an ancient axiom that every thespian knows to be true! “Good parts make great actors.”
We anticipate a memorable gathering at Montpelier on June 12, all of whom will relive, joyously, history of how they came to be, and how they came to have what they have—this land of the free!
Come to this celebration and be re-inspired to keep it the land of the free!
