“IF WE’RE charged with the responsibility of planning, we want to know what’s going on,” said Chairman Herbert Barksdale at the May 19 meeting of the Rappahannock Planning Commission. Zoning Administrator Evan McNear attended the meeting to work out a procedure of notifying the planners of all zoning office actions.

At the February Planning Commission meeting, Walter Masterson made a parlimentary inquiry into how the rest of the members felt about requiring Col. McNear to give the Commission a record of all permits issued by the zoning office. He made the same inquiry again on Wednesday night.

“Col. McNear administers the ordinances for the Board (of Supervisors). It makes it awfully hard for the Planning Commission. We don’t know where we are unless we look backwards to see what precedents have been set.”
