Environmentalists are worried, but they seemed to be in a definite minority on Monday, when the Concordes arrived. Americans like gadgets, and they are obviously enchanted by this most advanced gadget of them all. Who cares if somebody else’s plaster is cracked or slumber disturbed—we can leave in the morning and have lunch in London or Paris!
IT’S THE same almost everywhere you turn. Who. cares if beautiful landscapes are mutilated and the headwaters of important streams threatened—we can zip out to the mountains or the Beltway faster when 1-66 is completed.
Who cares if farms are put out of business by speculative land prices—we can go idle away our dollars at that newest mall shopping center, or assume a bigger mortage in that latest “planned community.”
Who cares? Well, this newspaper, for one. And, please, all you environmentalists or whatever you’re called: don’t give up. Keep up the Good Fight. If you keep saying and doing the right things long enough, somebody just might hear you.D
