Fredericksburg, the officers were elected from the board of directors. They are President, Samuel Jones of Winchester; first vice president, Giles Miller of Culpeper; second vice president, Mrs. Dorothy Samson of Owens; secretary, Mrs. Mary Helen Loftin of Front Royal; treasurer, Arthur Seippel of Clifton.
Dr. Kenneth Dawson of Blacksburg, state 4-H director, Cooperative Extension Service, VPI&SU, will serve as advisor to the board and officers in the management of the center.
Although primarily for 4-H Club use, the center will be available to other youth and adult nonprofit groups when not in use by 4-H, according to Jones. More than 260,000 young persons from 9 to 19 live in the northern district, which is the fastest growing area in Virginia, Jones said. When completed the center will be able to accomodate 450 persons at a time.
In addition to the cities of Alexandria and Fredericksburg, the center will serve the counties of Arlington, Caroline, Clarke, Culpeper, Fairfax, Fauquier, Frederick, King George, Loudoun, Madison, Orange, Page, Prince William, Rappahannock, Shenandoah, Stafford, Spotsylvania and Warren.
The center, Jones said, will be similar to the West Central Center at Wirtz, Va.
THE program to build this center was started this spring by a steering committee consisting of H. Robert Edwards, of Winchester, Sam Spangler, of Fredericksburg, Mrs. Joan duPont of Bluemont; Charles Rector of Manasas, Seippel, Miller and Blair.
