Charlie T. Mayo, 48, of Gid Brown Hollow, Washington, Va. died Saturday, February 12, 1977 at the Washington Hospital Center after heart surgery. Born in Aurora, N.C., he was a graduate of Atlantic Christian College and held a masters degree in education at George Washington University. For the last 18 years, he taught in the Montgomery County Maryland school system.
Mr. Mayo is survived by his mother, Mrs. Merle Mayo, two brothers, Merle Mayo, Jr. and Robert Mayo, all of Aurora, N.C.
Funeral services were held in Aurora, N.C. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Washington Volunteer Rescue Squad, Washington, Va. 22747.□
Smoot
Annie Belle Smoot, 69, of Washington, Va. died February 10,1977 at Warren Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. She was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Ashby Wright of Slate Mills and the wife of the late Jacob Edwards Smoot.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Anna Elizabeth Clatterbuck and Mrs. Helen V. Smoot, both of Washington, Va. and Mrs. Reva Woodard of Flint Hill; three sons, Jake Smoot, Jr., James A. Smoot and Carl D. Smoot, all of Front Royal; 23 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and one brother, James Ray Wright of Flat Woods, Ky.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday at the Gid Brown Bible Church; Washington by the Rev. John Burke, with burial in the Washington Masonic Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robert Branham, Ray Burke, John Burke, Jr. Mike Beam, Charlie Pullen and Albert Payne. .
