HAPPY BIRTHDAY “DOC.” You are quite an individual. Only one year old on February 13, 1977 and already you are a record breaker. Why the day you were born your foster father and proud owner, James C. “Doc” Johnson, of Washington, Va. thought you were something special. And ever since you were a few months old, Thomas Williams, Ned Johnson, Randall Updike and any number of other cattlemen have carefully watched your growth and development. Doc, whose daddy is a Simmental and mammy a Holstein wieghed 1335 pounds at 365 days of age. This crossbred bull-weighed 830 pounds at 205 days.
Ike Eller, V. P. I. Beef Cattle Specialist, says the highest performing bull of any breed in the Virginia B. C. I. A. Bull testing program weighed 730 pounds at 205 days and 1300 pounds at 365 days.
Tommy Eastham and I will vouch for Doc’s birth date. And Wade Massie has been the official weight master. Also, Mrs. Patty Alexander, will sadly tell you of Doc’s other desirable bullish characteristics'. On Christmas Day when Doc was not yet eleven months old, he mashed down a 48 inch American woven wire fence and bred her purebred Jersey cow.
