SOUTHEASTERN producers received slightly to sharply higher prices during the week ended February 10 for cotton, vegetables, broilers, hens, grain and cattle, USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service reported.
Feeder cattle prices trended steady to mostly $1 higher, and calf prices advanced $1 to $2. This was the third consecutive week of price advances for feeder cattle. Hog prices, however, trended steady to 25 cents lower. •
Corn prices moved up mostly 4 to 5 cents a bushel, and soybeans advanced mostly 4 to 7 cents. Cotton demand was moderate to good, and prices advanced 2.66 cents a pound for strict low middling 1-1/16 inch cotton.
RLEP meeting
The quarterly meeting of the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection will be held at the Court House in Washington Virginia at 8 p.m. on March 4.
.The program will include a presentation by James Marshall, vicepresident of the League and staff member of the Piedmont Environmental Council. Slides will illustrate the changes in land use in this Planning District and environs. Overlay maps and other graphic material will be available for viewing.
Featured speaker of the evening will be John Perry, executive secretary of the American Committee For International Conservation. He will discuss aspects of conservation which relate to this area and will show slides. The public is invited.
