Enactment of Public Law 92500 set up a method of funding a sewage disposal system at low cost to the community, and efforts by Rappahannock Supervisor Chairman Pete Luke advanced Sperryville from 108 to five on the state’s funding priority list, said Biddle. The community won a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency for 75 percent of the costs of a sewage system with an additional commitment from HUD for $188,000. This meant Sperryville residents would be responsible for a small unfunded balance only, concluded Biddle.
