Someone in the audience immediately objected to this assertion and Long said he would address the possibility of possible malfunctioning systems located outside the proposed service area later in the meeting.
The four alternative systems presented by Long included:
1. A conventional secondary treatment plant with eight inch gravity collector mains and one pumping station discharging into the Thornton River at a point just upstream from Clifford Miller’s, Barn.
2. A town drainfield or subservice disposal system on Ned Johnson’s property, utilizing the same collector lines and pumping station as the first alternative.
3. Almost 100 individual waste water treatment units serving individual dwellings and groups of dwellings with the effluent discharged into the Thornton River. The mini-plants would operate like large septic tanks with aerators.
4. A hybrid of the first and third alternatives with out-lying areas using individual waste water treatment units and the central portion of the town served by a secondary treatment plant, all discharging into the river.
