Chief Forest Warden Tippy Jenkins advises that the state’s open air burning law comes into effect on the first of March. During the period from March 1 to May 15, it will be unlawful to do any burning within 300 feet of woods or brushland before 4 p.m. This will apply to the burning of any trash, brush, leaves, etc., regardless of any precautions which may be taken.
“It is our hope that Rappahannock County landowners will cooperate in fire prevention efforts, ’ ’ Jenkins said. “Fire danger is excessive in the spring of the year because of characteristic dry periods, and because of the accumulation of dry vegetation which has died back during the winter.’’
