George P. Beard, Jr. of Culpeper has announced his candidacy for the House of Delegates seat which will be vacated by the Hon. D. French Slaughter, Jr. Mr. Beard is chairman, chief executive officer and trust officer of Second National Bank of Culpeper.
This is Beard’s first attempt for Tia political office. He says he has always held a conservative philosophy concerning state and local affairs.
“I am definitely a candidate for the House of Delegates, and have received encouragement from Democrats, Republicans and Independents alike. Based on my experience of over 35 years as a business person and my devotion to this area of the state and to my country, I believe I am qualified for this position,” said Mr. Beard.
Beard is 55, a native of Culpeper County, a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict. He was commissioned a second lieutenant.
His community activities include service on the county school board and member of Culpeper Memorial Hospital Board, director and secretary of Culpeper Broadcasting Corp., member of Fairfax Chapter 43 AF & AM, Culpeper
