The first major skirmish was that fought between the mink-coat brigade and the unhaltered troop over the Equal Rights Amendment. The mink-coats cornered delegates and senators in the halls, encouraging them to kill once again Virginia’s ratification fo the ERA. In addition to their mink coats, these soldiers were easily identified by their code words: honey, darling, sweetheart.

The unhaltereds were different. Throughout most of the battle, they stayed away, working quietly from the outside. But when the vote came up in the House Privileges and Elections Committee, they were there to sing songs and chant threats. Theirs was the most violent skirmish

And the most damaging to their side. Many ERA supporters backed away from the issue after the unhaltereds took over.
