Rappahannock apple growers have joined orchardists throughout Virginia and the nation in expressing increased concern over market situations. Last week, county orchardist Sam Snead attended a meeting at Stephens City to hear Kirk Miller, assistant director of national affairs for the American Farm Bureau Federation, explain recently proposed federal legislation on agricultural marketing and bargaining.
On November 20. Snead and Herbert Foster, area directors for the Virginia Farm Bureau Marketing Association, took part in a session of the Association's apple marketing committee in Harrisonburg at which the proposed Marketing and Bargaining Act was also discussed. Snead emphasized that the Association was only studying the proposed bill at this point and has not adopted a formal position on the legislation.
