The Virginia Division of Litter Control has awarded a grant of $4,200 to the Virginia Wildlife Federation for the first “Commonwealth Cleanup for Fish and Wildlife” contest. The contest will be open to youngsters in grades one through six from both public and private schools in the state. Projects are to be oriented toward litter control to improve fish and wildlife habitat and will be coordinated with the Wildlife Federation in each of Virginia’s ten congressional districts.
Children in grades one through three and four through six will compete in separate categories for $400 first, $200 second and $100 third place prizes to be used for the purchase of approved library materials concerning life sciences, ecology and the environment. Projects will be judged initially at the district level and referred to the Litter Control Committee for final selection of the winners.
