Hunter Dies
Jeremiah Atkins of Culpeper died of an apparent heart condition while hunting Monday on property which he owned near Amissville. He was hunting with his grandson, and when Atkins failed to return to his truck at an appointed time a search was initiated. Amissville firemen and area residents, joined by men from Orlean, formed a posse, but the body was not discovered until about 10:45 Tuesday morning.
Sheriffs Deputy Sgt. R. D. Hawkins and John Mannion spearheaded the search Tuesday morning, with assistance from a State Police trained dog.
There was no indication of foul play, according to Hawkins, and the body was taken to Geest Funeral Home in Culpeper by the Amissville Rescue Squad. Atkins had a history of heart trouble and the time of death was estimated to be about 3 o'clock Monday.
