Isaac Watts, the “tip top chimney sweep” who works in Rappahannock and surrounding counties, is the best in the business. After 700 chimneys and just over a year in the profession, Isaac was selected recently as the number one sweep in the country by the August West Company, a leading manufacturer of chimney cleaning equipment.
According to Isaac, he was picked primarily on the basis of work volume. August west representatives probably checked with some of his customers to make sure he had “a good attitude” and didn’t “rip people off,” Isaac said, adding that the assistance he has given to other fellows in setting up chimney sweeping businesses also might have helped him win the award. As the best in the country, Isaac recently went on a public relations tour through the northwest, representing the chimney industry in newspaper and radio interviews and on television talk shows. He’s perfect for the job. Dressed in the. traditional garb with his black trousers and tall stove pipe hat, he looks like a picture out of an old story book, complete with soot smudged face.
