Noting that there was talk around the state regarding the feasibility of taking the sales tax off food, Schlabach asked the board members how they felt about it.
His inquiry met with limited response. ‘‘It’s a good political issue. Everybody eats,” commented Supervisor H. G. Wood.
Following an executive session on “contracts and litigation” in which the Supervisors met separately with attorney Waugh Crigler and Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Updike, Col. Luke reported that the Updikes’ Community Trash Service had been awarded the contract again this year to pick up trash at the county’s dumpster sites.
According to Luke, Community Trash was the only company to bid on the job. The Updikes’ contract is
