"When a man owns something, pays for it and pays taxes on it and then a committee tells you whether you can sell it or what you can put on it...we’re getting in a very, very critical condition,” Boyd Brown told the Rappahannock planning commissioners at their reconvened meeting on April 21.
Brown’s remarks came as the commissioners were considering his son’s application to rezone the family’s property, three acres on Route 211 near Amissville, from agricultural to commercial for the purpose of operating a construction yard. The rezoning request was tabled after the commission’s March 18 public hearing for clarification on a legal question as to whether approval would constitute “spot zoning.”
