Graduate Studies
After her Peace Corps stint. Pali won a double scholarship to Tufts University as a graduate student. While attending classes herself, she also gave courses in theater and film and wrote. produced, directed and acted in plays. Then, on the little bit of side that was left over, she taught a theater workshop at Brookline High School. "1 wrote an original version of Thurber's Fables and we had a small company of high school students that toured with the production.” she said, laughing at what appears to have been an overwhelming workload. It’s obvious that for Pali, the theater is never work.
From Tufts. she went on to form the Public Theater of Boston. a professional company that did Shakespeare’s The Tempest and Oscar Wilde's Salome during a year under her direction. \
“Since then. I haven’t been very actively involved in theater.” she said. Switching disciplines, she began a business as a professional photographer, an enterprise that attracted clients from across the nation.
She met her husband Freeman Allen in New York through mutual friends and saw the on again-off again Rappahannock resident intermittently over three years before the two realized they were in love, according to Pali. Freeman agreed to be "off-again” in Rappahannock and relocate in Boston where Pali based her photography business. ”1 came down to visit here with him when* he* toenf to piek; up * his stove, his dog and his truck and I teil absolutely in love with Rappahannock County in 24 hours.” she recalled. She’s still not sure il the trip was part of a scheme Freeman hatched to convince her that Rappahannock was where the couple should settle but it doesn't really matter. They went back tc Boston long enough to move Pali’s studio lock stock and barrel to the town ot Washington where they rented an apartment until
