Purchasing three new vehicles will work out the same way, he said, with the county repaid in three years.
“Our maintenance is as cheap as anybody can operate a car,” the sheriff maintained, refering to minimal bills for work done on police cars through the school bus shop. Buntin predicted, however, that expenses for repairs will mount if the department’s current cars—all approaching 100,000 miles—aren’t replaced with new vehicles.
“The money is there (in reimbursements from the state)...If we don’t get ours, somebody else is going to get it," the sheriff concluded.
