To the editor:
This is a copy of a letter sent March 30 to Robert Estabrook, Superintendent of Rappahannock County Public Schools. Let it be known that the faculty has initiated this upon their own initiative: Dear Mr. Estabrook:
Mr. Wingfield maintains our respect, and we wish to see him continue in his position as principal at Rappahannock County High School. We have not witnessed any evidence of poor judgment, personally or professionally, on the part of Dennis Wingfield. We suspect his judgment has not always been consistent with that of the School Board, but a vast majority of teachers and community members have also been at odds with the School Board at some point in time. Your recommendation that Mr. Wingfield not be rehired implies that disagreemeftt can be used as a basis for administrative dismissal. This action puts everyone on guard and dampens both morale and open discussion.
A number of our high school teachers have chosen to stay in the Rappahannock system simply because of Mr. Wingfield’s stabilizing influence and unyielding support. He maintains an open line of communication with each and every one of us, understanding our concerns, needs and desires. He delivers constructive criticism when and where needed in a helpful and friendly manner. On the issue of discipline, all of the teachers in Rappahannock County High have received active and helpful assistance whenever needed. He has tried to handle our discipline problems both fairly and rationally.
Mr. Wingfield is understanding of our needs and is willing to help out in our classrooms when a special need arises. He has also been available to the school board office in emergency situations, upon your call.
Mr. Wingfield makes every effort to praise his teachers and listen to them. His evaluations are thorough, fair and he is always prompt in
