For the first time in recent memory, Rappahannock County High School has more boys than girls going out for track.
With a roster as long as many race events, coach Ann Spieker directed the Lady Panthers to a first place finish in the Skyline District, first place in the regionals and second place in state finals in 1978. The RCHS girls track team has compiled records almost as impressive in the years since. And each season, it has seemed as if half the females in the school were out for track.
For 1982, coach Spieker sees the trend in participation reversed but still expects strong performances in Skyline District competition. “The girls who came out for the team are very talented and show a lot of promise but depth will be our weak point.”
