RCHS. Unofficially, he’s concentrating on middle and long distance runners, 440 yards up to two miles, both boys and girls, while Spieker focuses on the remaining events.
“We have a lot of talent on the girls team but they can’t be everywhere. For instance, there’s Kim Williams. She can really do everything and do it well but she can only enter three events,” Child said.
Williams is one of four top notch sprinters who along with 1981’s Most Valuable Runner recipient Cristol Proter, Raynetta Gheen and Kathryn Davis will make the Lady Panthers hard to beat in the shorter relay and individual events. Porter, Gheen and Davis are marking off good distances in the long jump as well while Spieker expects Williams to advance again to state finals in the hurdle races.
Kelly Bristol and Tessee Benkahla will join experienced runners Rhonda Jenkins, Ann Oliver and Ann Tupper in the grueling middle and long distance competition.
