If effectiveness can be judged by academic progress, it should be noted that standardized test scores have steadily risen over recent years and Rappahannock County High School students have consistently scored higher than those in surrounding counties on minimum competency tests. Under the direction of Mr. Wingfield’s academic guidance, the teachers have been encouraged to strive for a higher standard of instruction. Included in the 1980 Report of the Virginia State Department of Education Visiting Committee were the following commendations:
“Th6 rapport that exists between the professional staff and students;. . . The excellent rapport between the school administration and faculty; . . . the experience and background of the school administration.”
The Rappahannock County High School faculty is appalled by this recent turn of events concerning our principal. It is a shame that you do not understand the depth of feeling that exists, nor do you sense the seriousness with which we view this matter; our efforts to air our concerns to you, face to face, have been in vain.
