the proposed budget under capital outlay for new buildings and additions.
Chairman Beverly Massie noted that without the addition of the $90,000 requested by the supervisors, local funds called for in the proposed budget would represent a 3.6 percent increase over what the board asked for last year. The $90,000 for new construction brings the local share up to $1,242,017, an increase of 12 percent over last year’s request.
On the revenue side of the picture for next year, superintendent Robert Estabrook projects that Rappahannock will receive $103,352 in state funds, 15.4 percent more than in the current year. Federal funds are estimated to go up a slim .2 percent while sales and wine tax revenues should climb 7.8 percent, according to the superintendent, giving the county a total jump of 12.2 percent in outside funds.
Following budget approval, the board retired into closed door session at 8:30 p.m. to discuss personnel and matters involving privacy of individuals unrelated to public business. On return to open meeting after 10 p.m., Massie announced that no action had been taken.
Mountain lions seem to have vanished from the eastern United States, except for a small group in the swamps of the Florida Everglades.
