Jeff Harper, a household name to the area’s pop music fans.
From the spring of 1975 through the fall of 1981, five nights a week, the Jeff Harper show ruled the airwaves of rural and suburban Northern Virginia. Broadcasting from WEER FM in Warrenton, Harper played records from an unusually diverse library of rock, oldies, jazz, blues, big band and bluegrass.
“The Oasis,” as the station was affectionately nicknamed, is gone, replaced by yet another “safe formula network operation,” as Harder puts it. But Jeff is still around, living in nearby Delaplane and taking his show on the road most weekends. He's built a mobile sound system and performs at local parties, wedding receptions and school hops.
