Notice given to property owners whose assessments were raised bv the Equalization Board has not been adequate, according to an opinion issued May 27 by Virginia's Attorney General.
In his ruling. Gerald Baliles cites the code section which stipulates that an Equalization Board may increase or decrease any assessment "provided, however, that no assessment shall be increased until after the owner of the property has been notified and given an opportunity to show cause against such increase, unless such owner has already been heard."
