women’s singles, Poula Parlegreco downed Lois Manookian (6-0, 6-0), Diane Bruce defeated Meryl Strange (2-6, 6-3, 6-2) and Faye Crescenti, after breaking a toe, forfeited her match with Theresa McLawhorn.

In men's singles, Dennis Fairbrother bested Keeton Barnes (6-4, 6-4), Phillip Strange upset Steve Scoggins (6-2, 6-2) and Steve Parlegreco advanced with a win over John Baumgardner.

The women’s doubles team of Phyliss Irwin and Candy Coombs advanced over a forfeit by the CrescentiArnold duo. Betsy Murray pulled a ligament during play but gamely continued to battle with her partner Sheryl Fairbrother, going down (6-0, 6-0) to the Marge Exton-Lois Manookian team.
