Davis bowed out of her

executive position as Mayor of Washington after serving for 22 years. For the first time ever, two men will hold offices in the coming year. The new mayor is Andrew Kozik and the new male councilman is Kermit Weakley. The maximum speed limits were raised in the State of Virginia. For automobiles the speed limit was raised from 65 m.p h. to 70 m.p.h. For trucks the limits went up to 60 m.p.h. from 55 m.p.h. Rains from Hurricane Agnes sent streams on a rampage as Mae Rowl’s house at Aldie had the corner swept off of it and the bridge at Rock Mills was covered with water and packed with debris. The official rainfall for the county was measured at five to eight inches.

THE JUNE session of

the Rappahannock

School Board was Chairman E.N. Montagues last meeting before his retirement from his position as the county’s “at large” representative.

Services for the aging which include a newsletter to seniors, preventive health care, and nutrition programs were all increased to include 522 elderly residents, up from 2% in the previous year.

The final project of Roger Touhey’s 7th grade English class at RCES. was a term paper which was judged by an impartial, non-school associate. The three top compositions were recognized and the awards went to Cindy Nicholson, Lavonne Adkins and Earl Jewell.
