The storm uprooted a few trees and scattered many branches, some of which hit utility wires, causing a power failure that affected about 600 households in the county. A representative from Potomac Edison said complaints started coming in around 2 p.m. All power was restored by midnight.
The representative said the worst hit areas were the hollows and the Huntly area.
Scott Tester of Sperryville was at home when the storm hit. Afterwards he said it looked like a lawnmower had been in his garden. “Everything was down in the garden - the squash, pumpkins and com - everything was
flat on its back,” Tester said.
At first he thought the storm would do more harm than good to his garden, but later he changed his mind. Many of his plants had sprung back to life by the following morning. He said his com was the slowest to bounce back, but even it looked “all right” on Saturday.
Tester, who saw the storm coming, said it looked like a solid white wall advancing toward his house. “Suddenly it was like 50 buckets of water were
