Keesey also does not let his dog run free often because she has a tendency to chase cars. “I don’t like it when she chases cars because someone could get hurt or she could,” Keesey said. “You can’t let dogs run free in town, so I think the ordinance is a good idea.”
Another town resident, Edith Tennent, agreed that the ordinance is a good idea for a town like Washington. “You have to respect your neighbors in a community like this,” Tennent said. “If you’re on a farm with lots of land, then you can let them run. ”
Tennent said that many people do not like dogs and would not want dogs on their properties. “I am used to having a leash law in effect, and I observe it anyway because I think it’s a good idea in the long run,” Tennent said. “It’s nice for the dogs to be able to run since it’s unnatural for them to be fenced or tied up, but I’m afraid our dog would get run over or cause an accident.”
Tennent said that her husband, John, takes their dog to the park every day for exercise. “I think that the dog ordinance is the best program for the town,” she said.
