BZA Members Sought
Judge William Shore Robertson will interview and/or discuss nominees to be considered for appointment to the Board of Zoning Appeals for the Town of Washington on Thursday, August 15, at 4 p.m. Interested persons should come to the courtroom at 4 p.m. for interviews. There will be five appointments to the board.
• Permit Application Postponed
Consideration of a special use permit application submitted to the Rappahannock Board of Zoning Appeals by the Amissville Ruritan Club was postponed during the BZA meeting on Wednesday, July 24, because no one from the club attended the meeting.
The Ruritans’ application for a permit to build a clubhouse on Route 211 will be discussed at the BZA’s next meeting on Wednesday, August 21, at 9 a.m.
• Reed Sentenced in Circuit Court
Murphy Reed, Jr., was found guilty in a Rappahannock Circuit Court jury trial on Thursday, July 18, of breaking and entering and grand larceny.
Judge William Shore Robertson sentenced Reed to two years in the state penitentiary and imposed a $500 fine.
In another case, Tony Banks pleaded guilty to three counts of breaking and entering and three counts of grand larceny. He will be sentenced on August 14.
• Smithsonian Group to Tour County
A group from the Smithsonian Institution will be in Rappahannock for a day tour and visits with area artists on Saturday, August 3.
The group will begin its tour at 9:30 a.m. with a visit to the home of Jeanne Drevas * potter and sculptor. They will eat lunch at Brambles and then view an open rehearsal of Sally Nash and the Last Minute Wood Company. Rappahannock artists will have their work displayed at the Middle Street/Mountain Railway Gallery, and a panel discussion will be held at the gallery from 3 to 5 p. m.
