Former Rappahannock County sheriff John Walker Jenkins, his wife Alice Jenkins, and her son William Hale were arrested at their home on Saturday, January 11, on a charge of abduction.
John Walker Jenkins and Alice Jenkins have been employed by the Rappahannock County School District as bus drivers. Although they performed their regular job duties on Monday morning, January 13, they were not permitted to drive students during the afternoon.
School Superintendent Robert Estabrook stated that he was informed of the arrest about 9 a.m. Monday at which time he immediately called an emergency meeting of the school board. Meeting at noon, members of the board quickly suspended the pair.
The incident that prompted the felony charge, according to criminal complaint records issued at the Rappahannock General District Court, begat* at 2:15 p.m. on January 11 when Carroll Bosely, operating a wrecker truck, arrived at the Jenkins’ home with Farmers and Merchants Bank counsel John T. Hennessy, his wife Janet S. Hennessy, and Tammy Good who is a credit officer.of the bank in Stanley. The three arrived to repossess a truck owned by the bank. Payments on the truck was in default.-.
