Gov. Baliles also emphasized the need to influence the transportation policies and programs of the federal government, which provides 30 percent of the revenue uses for road construction in Virginia.
The brunt of that job will fall to former State Highway Commissioner Harold C. King, who will become the state’s advisor on federal transportation issues.
“Hal King is being used in the best possible way for the commonwealth, where his expertise has been used for the past 30 years,” said new Secretary of Transportation and Public Safety Vivian E. Watts.
