in ‘fenderbenders’

Rappahannock’s school bus fleet seems to have been plagued with problems recently.
Assistant Superintendent and Transportation Supervisor Robert Chappell said that Friday morning Bus 5 was involved in an accident in front of the high school. The bus was finishing its morning run having dropped off students at the high school, and was preparing to head for the elementary school. Another car was stopped at the stop sign at the end of the road leading out of the high school also waiting to turn right towards the elementary school.
Trooper R.E. Keen, who investigated the accident, said that the bus driver assumed the other car had started to move onto U.S. 211 and let the clutch out. The bus hit the car and broke out a parking light. He estimated damages of $650 to the car and $50 to the bus. The warning arm on the bus was bent. No charges were filed.
Mr. Chappell said there were no serious injuries but some students complained of aches and bruises. No children were taken for treatment.
Monday morning, with substitute driver Roberta Jenkins driving, smoke was seen coming from under the hood of the same bus. The driver had stopped to pick up a student and was preparing to turn around to continue the run when the driver of another vehicle noticed smoke
