Literacy volunteers
in recruiting people to take advantage of the literacy programs that are in place. That has been a continuing problem for the dedicated group of volunteers, which meets each Monday evening at the county library to provide both individual and group tutoring to adults who are either unable to read or not proficient at the skill.
To solve that problem the participants in last week’s forum decided to see that a member of the LVA is assigned to meet with the “prescription team,” a multiagency group representing the Department of Social Services, the county Health Department, and Family Guidance Services.
Following the forum Mr. Bird said, “I’m very encouraged. It made everybody aware that they ought to make referrals, and it is up to us to react. ”
