confidence. I was distracted by the drips of translucent white paint on the surface - to me it made an otherwise fine painting look sloppy. Sturcken’s self-portrait, Feeling, was again well executed and boldly > composed. Notice the tremendous volume in the heavy table, it leaps out at you, asking to be touched. i pears remote and masklike and I found myself wanting more information. Hopefully, Ms. Sturcken will have a one-women show soon and we can see much more of her powerful work.
Dieter Schellinger, a full time doctor and part-time painter has made a very strong contribution to this show. Dr. Schellinger has a passion for paint and color which is reflected so well in his work. One can feel by looking at these pieces that he just loves the whole process. Misty Rain with it’s contrasting hot and cold colors has a hint of mystery-what’s going on here? Cupboard has enormous confidence and bold, bright color. Flowering Pink, a still life, is a testimony to the artist’s patience and efforts to understand the structure of a very complicated plant.
