The Second Amendment is not about hunting nor target shpoting nor gun collecting. It is not about providing a militia as its sole purpose. It is about the inherent and inalienable right of each citizen to defend his life and that of his family from criminals or mobs in times of civil turmoil, riots’or revolution. The government was established to guarantee that right and others, not infringe or compromise them. The right to self defense (and the means, be it sword or powder) existed long before the Second Amendment and before the U.S. Government itself. It predates the Magna Carta-extracted from King John with a sword
