The board voted to hold school on Monday Jan. 17, the holiday for Martin Luther King’s birthday and on January ’ 24, a date originally set aside as a teacher workday. Dr. Gangel recommended that the school use those two days to make up for days missed because of snow.
He also recommended that students ’ be excused from school Jan. 17 if they have a note from home saying they are participating with theljr parents in a program honoring Dr. Kihg, and that teach-; ers teach about Dr. King in school that day.
For the missed teacher workday,; ( Dr. Gangel recommended that the teachers work at home on Saturday Jan. 29.
The board agreed 'with Kurt Harrup, high school assistant principal and athletic director, pot to try to add tennis as a sport this year, but to explore add-; ing tennis as a club sport.
Mr. Harrup said four schools in the Bull Run District have tennis teams, but they arranged their schedules last spring. He said it would be difficult to have tennis as a sport without facilities, and it would be expensive to add the transportation costs" and coaching; stipends to the budget.
Dr. Gangel told board members that advertisements seeking bids for the elementary school addition had been placed in the Richmond Times Dispatch and the Rappahannock News.
