Ellen Fairchild-Flugel expressions in gold, silver bronze and stone are amazing. Her work is so imaginative, voluptuous and tactile that I often lose myself to greed as I stare into her glass jewelry case. She has created a simply elegant hecklace in sterling silver and gray stones that reminds me of a frosty winters day. Take a close look at her hair bun covers, unique rings and pounded, silver brooches. The work is often inspired by floral patterns in nature, particularity in her exquisite earrings. Ms. Fairchild-Flugel will have a one-woman show in October and it’s sure to be a visual Ireat.
There is much more to see in this show, Bruce Blundell’s photos, Martha Sheets Knight’s small and fantastic Quitters Phantasy (take a very close look) and Sandra Burton’s w’ell crafted wood pieces. -
In closing I wish to pay a special tribute of Jeff MacNelly, our resident cartoonist and internationally known creator of the comic strip Shoe. His contributions to the Gallery have, been enormous, and we all enjoy having the chance to see his original cartoons. Don’t pass up the opportunity to see what he’s done to Ross Perot and President Clinton this month at The Middle Street Exhibition. The show closes on Jan. 23, hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. FridaySunday.
