The Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection (R.L.E.P.) in conjunction with the newly named Ragged Mountain Resource Center, announces a series of hikes to nearby sites in the Blue Ridge. The hikes will be conducted by various local outdoor educators, including Kathleen Maier, Hunt Harris, Brenda Van Ness, Lyt Wood, Robin Purnell, Sean Kilpatrick, Bob Lucking and others, and are part of the continuing effort by R.L.E.P. and the Resource Center to ‘‘expand the walls of homes, schools and workplace b\ utilizing the wealth of human and natural resources in our region.” The hikes are open to all ages, but youth under the age of 12 should be accompanied by a parent or guardian. A small pack with adequate food, a flashlight and change of socks is recommended, as well as appropriate footgear and layered outer gear.
Anyone interested in helping to coordinate hikes and other activities such as biking and walking tours, camping and canoeing, etc. should call the Ragged Mountain Resource Center at 675-1879 to become involved. Volunteer staffing sign-up is a welcome need also.
The hikes are offered free to the public. Donations to the Resource Center are accepted.
