Ideally, that acrimony is behind us, and we can proceed on his message, our budget requirements, and other important legislation before us. To be sure, the proposed budget amendments offer a challenge, and their consideration will represent a defining moment for our legislature. As my good colleague, Randy Forbes (R-78th District), said on the floor this past week, we would prefer not to divide along party lines, but if we must, let us be between those who favor big government which thinks it knows best, who trust that government to spend our money better than we can, and who support current and higher tax levels — as against those who believe, as do 1, in Mr. Jefferson’s dictum that that government is best which governs least, that We, the People, know best how to spend our own hard-earned income, and that by reducing taxes, we return power to all Virginians
