If you’re looking for a bit of color in Rappahannock, but not necessarily of the local variety, Odyssey Collection Inc. may have just what you need to brighten up your life.
Opening last week at the new Mountainside Market Center, this eclectic gallery of a store promises to liven up the county. Accessible to all budgets, Odyssey provides a collection of jewelry, art-to-wear clothing, paintings, bronzes, sculpture, antique cloisdnne, weavings, hand-made pottery, hand blown glass and beads from around the world, with a focus on Native American and Indonesian art.
Owner Jennifer Greene is an artist who believes in supporting other artists. “I especially want to honor indigenous cultures because it perpetuates their creativity,” she says.
A traveller by nature with an -affinity for anthropology and Native American cultures, Ms. Greene was visiting Indian reservations long before Native American art became popular, looking for art to buy and sell.
!“I went with a sense of reverence and respect and they knew that, so my experiences were very positive,” she says. “Native Americans are taught from birth to honor their intuition and we are taught to negate it. I make a point of honoring my intuition.” I Other work featured in Odyssey
