3) Pace yourself. Until you are familiar with your own reactions to alcohol, don't take more than one drink an hour. That can be a 12-our\ee can or bottle of beer, a four-ounce glass of wine, or a jigger of liquor-ip some mix. But remember: carbonated drinks get into the bloodstream faster*.
4) Know when to say “when?’ Monitor your own feelings and bje wary of any major change of mood or perceptions.
There are some who will he shocked and offended at this advice. Yes, 1 know it is illegal in all 50 states for anyone to sell alcoholic beverages to anyone under 21 years of age. While most colleges do not flout the law, neither do they enforce it very vigorously. ■ '
Throughout our history, there has been a love-hate relationship with drink, and it seems unfair to send students off without at least some basic guidelines. *•
A few simple precautions may help even the best students to enjoy and benefit from the college expert^ ence in all its aspects more fully. I -
