MAUERTOWN — On Sunday the Rappahannock Monarchs split two games with Edinburg. The split moved the Monarchs to 6-1 on the season and kept them one game in front of 5-2 Edinburg for first place in the Apple Valley Baseball League.
Edinburg won the first game 3-2, but the Monarch’s bounced back to take the second game 8-6.
In the first game, Leroy North went the distance on the mound for the Monarchs. North pitched well, striking out two and scattering four hits over six innings. He made things exciting early though, by walking two batters with one out in the first inning. But North settled down and pitched out of the jam by getting a fly out to center for the second out, and Andy Ferr, the Monarchs’ catcher, made an outstanding diving catch of a foul pop-up to end the inning.
Rappahannock scored the first runs of the game in the fourth inning. William Parker led off the inning with a single up the middle. With one out, Nils Aylor bounced one over the left
