He said he is also concerned about proposed standards for'teaching American history that emphasize contributions of Indians and Africans at the expense of teaching about the contributions of white Europeans. “I want to keep teaching American history the way we were taught,” he said. “They leave out the accomplishments we have been raised with.” He said some of the proposals don’t even mention that George Washington was the first President. “He’s mentioned in a fictional setting: What would an Indian leader and George Washington talk about; write a paper on it,” Mr. Von Fange said.
