jumped out to 5-0 lead. Rappahannock’s starting pitcher, Stoney Frye, was hurt by two errors and three walks, as the Monarchs came out a little flat after their defeat in the first game. Luther Alexander relived Frye and closed the door on the first inning.
Rappahannock scored their first run of the game in the second inning on a solo homerun by Bob Howard. Edinburg answered with a run in the bottom of the second. The score was still 6-1 entering the top of the fourth when the Monarchs got three runs. Williams led off the inning with a single, went to second on a passed ball, and scored on Parker’s double to right center. Howard hit another home run to score both Parker and himself.
Alexander shut the door on Edinburg for the rest of the way. In six and one/third innings, Alexander gave up four hits, one walk and struck out three. Alexander, last season’s most valuable player for the Monarchs, has been even better this season. As a pitcher, Alexander is now 3-0, with a 1.94 ERA, while offensively he is tied for the team lead with two home runs.
