runners moved up a base on a passed ball to set the table for Vincent Aylor. Aylor worked the count full, before lashing a single to right which scored both runners.
In the top of the seventh, the Monarchs scored the final two runs of the game. Thomas Jones led off the inning with a pinch hit single. He went to third on a double by Williams. Parker singled Williams to third. Then, with two out, Vincent Aylor brought Williams in with a double to right center.
After the game, Monarch Coach, David Cianagan said this is the strongest team the Monarchs have had for a number of years. “We showed a lot of character today. We lost a close first game. Then, after we got down 5-0 in the second game, I thought we might go flat and let things get away from us. But we tightened up and chipped away at their lead. That showed me that this team has an awful lot of heart. It’s tough to beat Edinburg on their field.”
The Monarchs will play a double header at Maurertown against Woodstock at 1 p.m. this Sunday. The following Sunday, July 2, the Monarchs will return home to Rappahannock County High School to face Edinburg in a very important single game beginning at 2 p.m.
